Mountain Goat's Icicle Den Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

Geocache Description:

In Long Pond Ironworks. Not too far off the Hasenclever Iron Trail, up a steep Incline.

This cache is hidden in the rocks. By summertime the name might not make sense, but when I hid the cache the rocks were covered in all sorts of neat ice formations.

If you go just north (maybe 20 feet) of where the cache is hidden theres a little cave with a thick ice floor. There are giant icicles and what looks like a frozen waterfall. Very pretty, very cold.

There's no need to walk on the ice to find the cache (snow is another story) but be careful if you decide to!

PolskiKrol Slukster and I were in the park a couple of weeks ago, hiding a series. Slukster spotted this area from the trail and his eyes lit up. We didn't hide anything then b/c we were unsure of the stages of the nearby multi. Now that I know its far enough, I just had to come back and place it, Happy Hunting :)
