Once upon a time, there were two Leprechauns from South Louisiana named Boudreaux O'Toole and Patty Duchesne. They were constantly having to go move their pot of gold that they had hidden, because of all the New Orleans area geocachers that were searching for it.
Patty and Boudreaux decided that enough was enough, so one dark night while everyone was at Mardi Gras, they loaded up all of their hidden gold into their pirogue (or clover canoe, as they called it), and headed up north, where their loot would be safe......or so they thought.
It is well known fact about leprechauns, that they are extremely wealthy and like to hide their gold in secret locations, which can only be revealed if a person were to actually capture and question a leprechaun for its money.
Well, Patty and Boudreaux decided that in order to keep their gold safe, that it would be best if neither one of them knew the exact location of their new hiding spot. That way, if one of them got caught, then he wouldn't know enough to lead anyone to the gold. So, they took turns blindfolding each other, as they were heading into, and leaving out of the woods where they hid their loot. Each one of them memorized certain geographical features, unbeknownst to the other one.
Once they got back into town, Patty grabbed an Amtrac train over to Mississippi. He was promptly spotted around the Jackson area and under intense Mississippi Geocachers Association interrogation tactics, he spilled the beans on what he knew about the gold.
Boudreaux made the mistake of walking into a restaurant where the North Louisiana Geocachers were having a meeting. His accent immediately gave him away, and his knowledge about the gold was coerced out of him after some jambalaya was offered as a bribe. You got to remember he had been in a pirogue all night, and was hungry.
It wasn't long before the two geocaching groups, along with the LA Geocachers, started comparing notes and sharing information on what they knew about the loot. What they hadn't counted on was the mischievious nature of leprechauns, and how they love to play practical jokes on everyone. It came to be that everything the leprechauns had told them, was cryptic in a way.
In order for the gold to be found, you have to play the companion wherigo cartridge also named "The Lost Loot of the Louisiana Leprechauns" which you can download by clicking on the "user's web page" located below the name of the cache at the top of this page. If you are not familiar with the wherigo type of caches, you will need a gps enabled pocket pc device or a Garmin Colorado/Oregon to play. More details are available at www.wherigo.com.
You will start your search from the parking area of Pavilion 2 in D'Arbonne State Park which is where the "Third Times a Charm" event is being held April 4th. There will be several fellow geocachers there that day who will be glad to loan their wherigo compatible devices to others who may wish to hunt for this cache.
There is a pot of gold in the cache for the ftf.
Also make sure to note the completion code in the logbook. Once you enter the completion code, when asked to do so at the end of the game, the program will then give you an unlock code (which is different from a completion code). You may use this unlock code on the wherigo webpage for "Lost Loot of the Louisiana Leprechauns, so you can mark it as successfully completed. Even if many geocachers play this together, they can use the same unlock code. There is an option in the unlock for this. You just need to enter the gc.com name of the person who downloaded the cartridge.
