Go along a track to turning place for lorries and head up deer track through windblow and brash to DFWP1. There are faint tracks leading round fallen trees to the Fort before heading on to the cache site. Generally if you pick your route carefully there shouldn't be a problem.
David's Fort is thought to be a medieval homestead surrounded by a moat. An impressive structure once you get there. Worth the effort.
On old maps roads are shown going past nearby down to the River Conon where there was once a ford across the braided river.
DFWP1 leads you to the access point over the moat to the fort. Take a wander round before heading on to the cache which is adjacent to a small wall and channel possibly used as a small mill. The DFWP3 brings you down on to a forest track beside a pond possibly of the same period. Archaeological surveys have indicated that there is evidence of other shallow ponds which have now filled in with the passage of time. It is thought that they were once used for soaking flax before processing into clothing.
