Geocache Description:

This gold ammo can has been placed in honor of e-r-h's 1000th cache found on February 7, 2009. This family of 6 is one of the most dedicated team of cachers we have met. They are up for any Geocaching challenge. Congratulations to team e-r-h for their #1000 milestone!

Quest for Gold!

This hike on State Game Lands 295 will take you up the north flank of Bear Mountain. The trailhead to this geocache is at the game lands parking lot located 3.8 miles south of Lamar on State Route 2002. Parking coordinates: N 40° 59.473 W 77° 29.557.

Access the cache by following the red blazed trail leading from the parking lot. Please do not access the cache from the private land and cabin to the south. The red blazed trail crosses Cherry Run twice on foot bridges. Be advised, these bridges can be very slippery when wet.

First bridge over Cherry Run

The red blazed trail ends when it intersects the Cherry Run Trail. Turn left and follow the Cherry Run Trail until you need to turn right and head up Bear Mountain. There is an old abandoned logging road that traverses up Bear Mountain to near GZ. Finding the start of this trail will be the crux in scoring this cache. (Topo map will be helpful.)

Abandoned logging road.

Sections of the trail may be quite muddy so wear appropriate footwear. Remember that this is State Gamelands, so do not forget to wear orange during all hunting seasons. Be advised the cache rating may bump up to a terrain 4 during the winter season.

Congrats to team e-r-h for scoring the FTF on their gold ammo can.
