Worst. Orchard. Location. Ever.
Who in their right mind ventured up this gully, looked at that hill slope and thought "well, that might make a fine spot for an orchard"?
We haven't been able to find any information on the history of this orchard, only that the Friends of Black Hill group have been slowly removing the introduced species. We don't know who planted the orchard or what the original extent of it was, or how they even went about harvesting their fruit without some difficult traversing of terrain.
As you climb the hillside on the switch backs of the Orchard Track, imagine what planting and picking must have been like here.
The final 10 metres to the cache may give you an idea of what it would have been like. The terrain rating is due mostly to these last 10 metres, some scrambling and pushing through vegetation is required.
See how many different introduced species you can spot - there are a LOT of different trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants that don't belong here!
The cache is a clear cliplock container and includes an unactivated micro geocoin for the first finder.
