I'm an old-time Eagle Scout, who was sad to see my own scout
camp, where I had many fond memories, turned into a park. When I
found there was a similar situation here, I felt compelled to make
note of this one as well.
(My camp was "Camp Saratoga" (GC1C3YH), which, ironically, is
located near the "original" Saratoga in New York, not the facsimile
in
California.
visit link. "Saratoga" is a Mohawk (Iroquois Confederacy) word
for something like "land of great waters".
Camp Stuart, from a bit of Googling, operated from 1944 to 1988.
It's now owned by the county, but closed to the public. This
drive-up will show you the entry points to the site, including the
one sign pictured above. I believe there are several buildings over
the hill to the west. If you have any pictures or memories, please
share them!
This picture is meant to confuse you! It's from the former Camp
Saratoga in New York..
