Ein nacheiszeitlicher Felssturz hat die Entstehung eines großen Sees verursacht. Als später das Wasser abgeflossen ist, entstand das größte Moos Nordtirols. Bereits im 11. Jahrhundert wird Lermoos urkundlich erwähnt. Es hieß damals Larinmos, was soviel bedeutet wie „Lärchenmoos“.
A post ice age fall of rock caused a large lake to be created. When, at a later date, the water had drained away, it left behind the largest marsh in the whole of northern Tyrol, where Lermoos is situated. As early as the 11th century Lermoos was mentioned in official documents; at that time it was called Larinmoos, meaning „larch tree marsh“.
Door een bergbreuk, na de Ijstijd, ontstond een groot meer. Toen het water was afgevloeid kwam het grootste moeras van Noord-Tirol ervoor in de plaats. Al in de elfde eeuw wird Lermoos genoermd, al heette het toen „Larinmoos“ wat zoveel will zeggen als „Lärchenmoos“.
