Geocache Description:

From the dedication plaque on the Pavilion:
"Travelers came to look upon it as an old friend - they felt an attachment for the tree that had so often sheltered from storm and sun..." W.H. Davis (1853)

Lone Elm Park is a 160-acre community park dedicated in 2004. The park is built on land that was once called The Lone Elm Campground. For several decades, starting in 1821, this site served as a campground and rendezvous point for travelers along the Santa Fe, Oregon and California trails.

Nothing remains of the original Lone Elm, but the marker and the street by which it was named continues the legend of the Lone Elm in Johnson County KS.

This is my first attempt at placing a cache, so I tried to keep it a simple and straight forward as possible.

Lots of room to roam around in this park, and lots more room for another cache, But beware there is a lot of thorny under brush here.
