SQ - River Side Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Allen Cachers: We stopped by the cache site this morning. The cache is not where we hid it, nor could we spot it anywhere nearby.

After talking about it, we have decided to archive this cache and open the cemetery up for someone else to place a cache.

Thanks to everyone who visited. We hope that you enjoyed this unique old cemetery.

Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in the River Side Cemetery in Meridian Township. We have driven by this cemetery many times, as many of you whom are local to the area probably have as well.

The SQ in the cache name signifies Spirit Quest, to distinguish those caches that are hidden in cemeteries or memorial gardens. Michigan law states that you are only permitted to visit cemeteries dawn to dusk through out the state unless other hours are posted. Please be respectful of the area, and observe any rules and posted hours. Absolutely no night caching. Any indication that the cache was found at night will result in the deletion of your find log.

According to one website: "It is a little used cemetery anymore, with the last burial in 2001, and all but a handful occuring before the 1930's." We can personally verify that there are a lot of old grave stones and monuments.

Please Note - There is no automobile access to this cemetery. Finding parking may be the most difficult part of finding the cache.

The cache is a medium-sized snap-lock container hidden in a typical way. There is absolutely no need to disturb any grave stones when looking for this cache.

Once again, please be respectful of this old cemetery. Any signs of night caching or signs that the area is being overly disturbed and we will have no choice but to remove the cache.

Update - There is no need to descend the steep embankment towards the river. The cache is at the cemetery level.

Congrats to Steve and Sara on the FTF!
