Tribal Clay Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Balayang: I am regretfully archiving this cache since unfortunately there has been no action to restore it, or any communication from the cache owner, NTSTROM, requesting additional time.

An ample opportunity has been provided for the Cache Owner to respond, but since this opportunity has been ignored, I can only conclude that the cache has been abandoned.

Caches archived under these circumstances are unable to be Unarchived, and this location is now available for the placement of a new cache, by somebody else.

Geocache Description:

A nice big .50 cal ammo tin located at Lee Point.

Put on your hiking shoes, throw on some mozzie repellant and make sure you wear some long pants and long sleeves.

There are quite a few options when it comes to routes to the cache. However the cache is located about 1 km from the Lee Point Carpark, S12 19.947 E130 53.684, which is the suggested starting point. It is a nice easy stroll from here along a formed track. During the wet season the track can become a bit muddy but still quite an easy stroll. Be warned that other routes may seem shorter but may prove more difficult! You can also get to the sight by following trail heads from Dripstone Cliffs and also behind the Royal Darwin Hospital, however these are quite a substantial hike!

When approaching the cache, from the suggested route, you will pass a special location which is one of the only locations in Darwin and possibly the top end which contains a certain type of clay. This clay is used by the local indigenous people for certain ceremonies. The site is located about 10 metres SE off the path at S12 20.320 E130 53.353. Here you will observe some small diggings, but please do not disturb the site as it is still utilised.

The cache is located a further 70 metres along the track, roughly 20 metres SE from the edge of the track. It contains some goodies and there is plenty of room for swaps.

Please be aware that GPS signals will not be great at GZ due to the tree canopy and jungle. I did average GZ on the 60CSX, but be warned that the coords may be slightly out!

Make sure that you find 'Beach Strongpoint' (GC1AXD6) on your way as you will go right past it!

Once you have found the cache, the more adventurous may want to make their way NW and head for the beach. You can then make your way back to the carpark along the beach.

Either way good luck and enjoy the nice stroll in the great outdoors!
