Ferret Update 19/05/2009
Although the event officially kicks off at 7.00pm Ferreter38 and
myself will be there from around 6.00 to set up the Ferret run. We
will have the first race at 7.00pm and it will run continuously
while the Ferrets have the energy and the punters have the demand.
Its usually a 50p stake. I am hoping it will be nice for us to stay
in the Beer garden (where the Ferret run will be) so we can combine
Food and Ferrets (not eating the actual Ferrets of course!). If not
we can play it by ear. Going may be wet underfoot so bear that in
mind with your Ferret form guide!
Moore Where That Came From
The May NWCMM will return to the village of Moore. Last October
when it was there previously was a cold wet night. It would be nice
for everyone (hopefully) to see the area in the sun. Especially
since there will be the added bonus of Ferret racing! Although the
title refers to Runcorn I think the village of Moore is actually in
Warrington. For the last 10 years I have worked (and become rather
fond of) the town famous for its chemical plants and this is my
lunchtime pint so I always associate it with Runcorn. If you have
never been to Runcorn before you will be pleasently surprised how
rural it is. It's a decent Real Ale Pub with good food. It's child
friendly and they have baby changing facilities. If you have never
been to an event before please come along. Somewhere between my
work and this pub there is the Runcorn boundary. You can spot it,
its where people stop wearing Burberry, glowing in the dark and
talking in dodgy scouse accents! The village of Moore itself has
one big claim to fame. A story which is told in my nearby
BodyLine cache.
Don't trust TOM TOM
If you are coming from the M56 and are unfamiliar with the area
then your SatNav will send you down Hobb Lane. It's very narrow and
you don't want to meet anyone coming the other way. I know this
caused trouble for people last October. When you are by Daresbury
Tower (Runcorn's Rocket!) turn left at the roundabout and head down
the Daresbury expressway, not straight on as Tom Tom will tell you.
If in doubt point your sat nav to the parking coordinates for
Keckwick Brook Trail and go from there.
Ferret Racing
As a special treat for attendees there will be a Ferret race.
Please remember that Ferrets may go forwards as well as backwards
and the past performance of a Ferret is no guide to its form on the
day. Ferrets will be provided on the day, they and the pipes they
run through are kindly being supplied by Sheila a.k.a geocacher
Ferreter38.
