Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed as part of East London’s Camp & Cache event cache.

To get to the cache park at the listed parking co-ordinates. Walk along the beach past the tidal pool you will notice a huge log. Probably one that fell of the ship Kiperousa. The Kiperousa - a 14 921-ton log-carrier - ran aground on a reef off Bhenga, south of Hamburg, in the Eastern Cape, on 7 June 2005 while en route from Gabon to Durban to take on fuel oil. 23 logs washed overboard and on to beachs up the coast. Is this one of them?

Continue past the log, on reaching a sign that says high tide route, follow the yellow footprints. This trail is part of the strandloper hiking trail. This is a 4 night 5 day backpacking trail along the southern section of the Wild Coast and Cape Wild Coast. Each section has been designed to reveal special aspects of our coast. The trail covers 59 kilometers and the best time of the year to hike is between May and July as there is no rain or wind, the days are warm and the nights cool; although every month has it's special attractions. Overnight in huts along the coast. All huts have bunks with mattresses and amenities. There is no electricity and no vehicular access to the huts. On this hike you will cover spectacular views and terrain. The trail is not recommended for children under 12, but there are no restrictions should you wish children to accompany you. This is a nature lover's paradise, with access so limited that the only way to see the majority of the coastline is to hike. You will encounter long lonely beautifully wild beaches, rivers, fauna, and majestic views.

The cache is a 1.1 Litre LNL container hidden with in a short distance along this natural dune forest walk. The path continues through the dune forest for 2 kilometers where you will come out at the 4th and final overnight hikers hut in the Beacon Valley which has a water tank, cold water shower, flush loo and basin. A permit is required to reach the hut.
