Amersfoort
In and around Amersfoort lots of nature can be found. The city of Amersfoort is beause of that located at a very special place. Three different landscapes join here together: The 'Utrechtse Heuvelrug', the 'Gelderse Vallei' and the 'Eemland'. Furthermore, the year 2009 is a special year for Amersfoort, in the year 1259 cityrights were given to Amersfoort, so the city exist this offcially for 750 years. This was a reason for me to search for another nice area in Amersfoort to create an Earth Cache on.
This Earth Cache is the third within the city of Amersfoort and is more or less connected to the other Earth Cache, Wheels in Eemland.
The Oude Eem
The history of the river Eem goes back for some time: The river is older than the well known Zuiderzee (or IJsselmeer) and arises in the late Pleistoceen (Eemien 128.000 - 116.000 years ago). Eemien period uses the name Eem (of the river Eem). During the thousands of years from the Eemien period onwards, the river Eem changed its flow though the landscape. This Earth Cache is located in one of the older parts of the Old river Eem. The river Eem itself is unmistakably one of the most important factors for the origination and growth of the city of Amersfoort
During the recent rebuilding of the city part 'Grote Koppel' also the developments and the flow of the river Eem were examined. A few year ago a reconstruction of the Oude Eem was created (based on existing parts in the landscape), and there is now the possibility to take a closer look at the landscape of the Oude Eem. In the small swamp nearby the 'Hooglandse Dijk' the landscape is shown how it must have look a thousand or more years ago.
The EarthCache
To be able to log this cache as found you will have to perform some tasks and answer some questions, as the signs are being replace, the tasks have been slightly adjusted:
Park your vehicle on the coordinates mentioned at the top of this page. Now walk along the place normally 4 information signs would reside. The location of the information signs is given below. Of course you will need to stay on track. Enjoy the walk and the nice surroundings.

. Vogelbos, to be found at N52° 09.850 E005° 22.822
Answer the following questions:
1. How many bridges with a balustrade did you cross walking to Vogelbos?
2. What is the number of vertical bars on the balustrade of the last bridge?
When you have arrived at any point in the landscape, perform the following tasks:
3. Take a picture ofyourself or your team mates and your GPS with on the background the clear flow of the Oude Eem.
4. Give an rough estimate of the length of the part of the Oude Eem that you have seen (in meters).
To log this cache you will have to email me the answers to the questions (using my profile or the message tool). You can upload the picture together with your log. There is no need to wait for approval. Logs with wrong answers will be deleted.
