Nestled in northern Lancaster County’s Elizabeth Township,
Rannels-Kettle Run Nature Preserve is a haven for bird lovers. The
91-acre property features warblers, scarlet tanagers, great horned
owls, great blue herons, woodpeckers and wood and water thrushes.
It is also a favorite site of wildflower enthusiasts. By mid-May,
40 or more wildflowers, like lady slippers, May apples and lobelia,
already are in bloom.

The preserve’s terrain varies, from flat to hilly, and the
ground can be soft and moist in places where there are seepages
from Kettle Run.
Rannels-Kettle Run is bordered by the state game-land in the
northern part of Lancaster County, near the Lancaster-Lebanon
County border. This preserve contains a mature hardwood forest and
over ¼ mile of the Kettle Run stream corridor. A trail is connected
to a section of the state game-land trail. The Horseshoe trail runs
across the preserve and is used in part of the Conservancy's
(blue-blazed) loop trail. There is an elevation change of nearly
500' on the property between the stream and the boundary line with
the Horseshoe Trail preserve.
NOTE: The Lancaster County Conservancy
does not allow the public to hide geocaches on lands it protects.
If you would like to work with the Conservancy to place additional
geocaches, please contact us at above link
