Brazos Bend Endurance Series
Voted “Most Physically Challenging Series” 2009

“Compass Tree” is the 15th and final cache of the 15 cache Brazos Bend Endurance Series. Now that you are at the tree, ask it how to get to the Marvin Posey bench at N 29* 22.305 / W 095* 35.795. Now that you have directions, it’s time to head back to the real trail and have a seat on the bench to pick out all the stickers and give you a chance to cool off. Just because you found the last cache, the adventure continues because you still have to get out of the woods. I want get to say much more to everyone, so CONGRADULATIONS on finishing the Brazos Bend State Park Endurance Series. Thanks for the fun. Once you get back to your cachemobile, stop by the Nature Center and let David know how much you have enjoyed caching at Brazos Bend. If it makes you feel better, I had to walk (wonder aimlessly) the entire trail to get the coordinates and then I had to go back and walk it again to put the caches in place once the permits were approved. The second time was just as hard because I had to find my way through again. Have a great day.
I do not recommend bringing small children on this particular caching run but that will be up to the parents. You have been warned. I would say a minimum of young teenagers that will be able to get through the obstacles on there own without a lot of help from mom and dad. The trek will start you off with some pretty easy to find caches. There may be a little bushwhacking involved on the first four or five but not too difficult. Just enough to get your blood circulating, your geocaching senses fine tuned, and your muscles warmed up for the real deal that is in store for you. This series is a hiking only series because there is no possible way to even think about getting a bicycle back here. All together it will be about a 4.5 mile hike. As you are looking for the treasures, think about some of my other hides in the park because there may not be many hints. It may help you out.
The “Brazos Bend Endurance Series” will take you on a journey through an undeveloped section of Brazos Bend State Park. The items that I recommend for the hike will be long pants, hiking boots that are water proof, a hiking pole of some type, and plenty of water to drink along the way. Those are the minimum requirements but you may want to wear long sleeves to help keep the stickers at bay, maybe some snake guards, or even a short rope to help pull yourself back up may be handy. As you make your way through the coarse, you will encounter various elevation changes, steep slopes, possible muddy areas, some pretty significant briar patches, and a lot of small bushes/trees that will have to be traversed. I will also tell you that when you think there is no way to get through an area, just keep looking around and you will find a way through. You may also not be able to follow the direct path that your GPS will provide for you. The trek may require you to go quite a bit off course or even backtrack to get around the obstacles. I hope that everyone has a great time and enjoys what nature has provided for us, so don’t let the horrific description scare you away. It’s time to dig in and do some serious bushwhacking. Do not stick your hands into a hole without first looking to see if anything is home. Use a stick instead. Things like spiders, ticks, thorns, poison plants, ants, skeeters, army dillers, and possible wild animals such as ferrell hogs, snakes, deer, or even gators exist in this park. DO NOT approach them or their young. After you finish caching', be sure and spend some quality family time in the park, hiking, biking, picnicking, fishing, or camping.
The proper permitting has been issued and approved for this cache. Also, it is illegal to enter a state park without first obtaining a park pass. Admission is $5.00 for adults, seniors, and children under 12 are free.
