Its interior looks deserted. Its food court is gone. And most of its retail space is vacant. But after years as the area’s declining urban mall, the Canton Centre Mall refuses to die. Several months after published reports in March and July on the state of the mall and its plans for a revival, the Owner says that despite the severe recession, Canton Centre still is on track for a comeback. The women’s store, Deb, moved from inside the shopping center to a new exterior storefront facing Tuscarawas Street W. The change in locations is part of the mall’s long-term plan to “demall.” Starting last January or February, the mall began construction at the site of its shuttered food-court area, creating store spaces with main entrances facing the parking lot.
