Ghosts and Legends of Tracy and Beyond #1 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Nomex: Hi
As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm temporarily archiving this to keep it from continually showing up in search lists. Just contact us when you have the cache repaired, [RED]and assuming it still meets the guidelines[/RED], we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Don't hesitate to email me via the link on my Profile if you have any questions. [red]Please be sure to include the cache name and GC Code, or better yet, the URL of the cache page.[/red]

Thanks for your cooperation!

Geocache Description:

This is the first in a series I am putting together highlighting areas in and around Tracy that have a ghost story or legend attached to them. I do not claim to have done detailed research to verify the accuracy or legitimacy of these accounts… after all that is what legends are all about right?? If you want to add an element of excitement, try hunting these caches at night... if you dare.

THE BETHANY RESERVOIR:

Be forewarned that the legend associated with this spot is VERY disturbing and not appropriate for the faint of heart or for sharing with children. The cache itself and actual physical location would be a perfect place to bring the kids, but I would avoid sharing the background information with them. ?

According to legend, in 1962 an alcoholic father brought his 5 children to Bethany Reservoir to do some fishing and camping. At some point during the trip he went insane and ended up hunting down each of his children one by one and murdering them. People have reported seeing children running around the reservoir and through the hills screaming. Much more recently, a father stabbed his son and wife after a argument during a midnigt fishing trip. (Thanks Shrektrician for the head's up on the Labor Day weekend incident!) By day this is an absolutely beautiful spot… but who knows what you might find in the dark…

As of 11/1310 this cache is a nano. Due to the fact that the larger containers kept getting muggled, then the original bush and stump housing the container were removed... the cache has migrated a few feet from the original spot. Please see my log entry on 11/13/10 with suggested coordinates (although they are not very far away from the original coordinates).

There are five other caches near this area, so that, paired with the gorgeous view, will make this trip worth it. When driving up the road to the reservoir you will see a sign that says you have to pay $5.00 to get in, but the location where we placed the cache does not appear to be within the area that requires a fee. We did not have to pay anything… but then again there was not a single person around. If anyone does go to this cache and is required to pay a fee, please let me know so I can indicate that in the description. (Note: As of 9/5/10 I have been up there a dozen times and have never had to pay the fee so I think cachers will be fine too).

This cache is in view of a boat-loading dock and should be fairly easy to find, but the coordinates may be slightly jumpy because there are some big trees around this area. There are many tables around and would be a great place to have a picnic with the family.

NOTE: When I originally placed this cache on Valentine's Day, there was not a single person there... it was virtually deserted in the winter time, but this little cache has taken quite a beating in the summertime, esp. because the cache itself is in a high-traffic area in the summer. Keep this in mind when you are looking for the cache during the busier months because you may have to wait some time before you will be able to safely retrieve it due to the amount of muggle activity. However, if you are looking for this when it is cold outside, you are probably not going to have any trouble.

I will post some pictures of the general area to give you further motivation to make the drive.

CONGRATS TO TEAM TEK FOR FTF!!!!
