The town and the pond by similiar name had the last hand crank telephone exchange.
I thought that I would combine two of my favorite outdoor sports into one this winter. That is Geocaching and Ice Fishing. Both sports have brought me to some beautiful places.
My tenth ice fishing geocache for 2009 is at Christopher Lake (AKA Bryant Pond) in the village of Bryant Pond. The other ice fishing caches are as follows: first is at Cold Rain Pond GC1KFT4, second is at Worthley Pond GC1KGXC, third Horne (Pequawket) Pond GC1KVV0, fourth at Robson (Woods) Pond (GC1MFAZ), fifth Bunganut Pond GC1MBFN, sixth Sand Pond (GC1MFEN), seventh Keoka Lake (GC1MFFK), eighth at Anonymous Pond (GC1MFG5), and ninth at Hancock Pond (GC1MFGH).
Christopher Lake is a beautiful two hundred seventy eight acre lake with a maximum depth of 63 feet. According to Maine IFW, the pond was stocked with 1000 brook trout-10”, 100 Landlock salmon-6”, and 325 Splake-11” in 2008. The fishing here is only matched by the beautiful view of the surrounding hill side.
Fishing Report on day of placement: 2/14/09
No fish to report.
Cache:
The cache is a dry case and log with FTF prize. The FTF prize is pretty interesting. It came from a local shop and supposedly was found in the nearby hills. The FTF prize did not fit in the dry case and was taped to the outside.
Directions:
Take RTE 26 to Bryant Pond. As you enter the town, there are several small blue signs which will lead you to the boat ramp. The boat ramp is currently (2/14/09) plowed and easily accessible.
