Geocache Description:

"Ohio Spirit Quest"

The Ohio Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Buckeye Pioneers. This series is inspired by and a continuation of the Indiana Spirit Quest caches created by Six Dog Team. In just over three years, the SPIRIT QUEST has grown to over 550 caches, with the hiding teams growing as well. The Ohio Spirit Quest has begun to grown to over 30 in Ohio, with five current caching teams, three each with A Man and His Dog, one with a Couple and Their Dog... and one with A Woman and her Dog. Over 1,000 cachers have logged over 20,000 finds. One cache machine found 111 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

Welcome to West Franklin Cemetery

Franklin Township, Fulton County, Ohio
OHIO SPIRIT QUEST #37
"Franklin: Old & New"

The Old Section of the West Franklin Cemetery is located on the south side of the Old Angola Road (CR L) east of the intersection with TR 27-2.

In 1849 members of the Methodist Episcopal Church located a cemetery on land furnished by Ezekiel Masters. Willie Masters, son of Ezekiel and Mary Masters, was the first buried at the M.E. Cemetery.

Markers predating this burial site most likely came from the old Asher Ely burial grounds, located in Williams County south of the present cemeteries. Ely Cemetery was located one mile south of Franklin Cemetery, and is still shown on many older plat maps.

The New Section of the West Franklin Cemetery is located on the south side of County Road L. (Old Angola Road), west of the intersection with Township Road 27-2.

A cemetery association formed in 1881 and purchased land from the Jacob Schenk farm west of TR 27-2 to be used for a burial ground. The first buried in the new section was the infant daughter of John and Ella Hollington.. The two cemeteries are today known as the West Franklin Cemetery, Old and New sections.

The cache container is a pill bottle. If you find a fallen US flag, please stick it back in the ground. As always, please be respectful, and cache in, trash out.
