Geocache Description:

Another cache in the ever expanding Church Micro series.

The Sherrington Church of St Cosmas and St Damian dates from the late 13th century. This is one of four churches in England dedicated to the twin saints of the Middle East and accords with the fact that Alexander Giffard, a local landowner, was a Crusader and the only notable survivor of the Battle of Mansourah, Egypt in 1250.

The church is beautifully restored and is fortunate in possessing an almost complete set of wall texts. These are paintings used in Elizabethan and Jacobean days to promote religious education.

Well worth a look inside.

If any body would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
