Geocache Description:

The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission
Park Ranger Geo-Challenge
2009

The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission Park Rangers invite you to participate in the first ever M-NCPPC Park Ranger Geo-Challenge. There will be 30 “Ranger Challenge” caches placed on beautiful M-NCPPC park land within Prince George‘s and Montgomery Counties. The M-NCPPC operates over 56,000 acres of parkland in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, and a variety of facilities, from nature centers to community centers to historic sites to sports venues -- and much, much more.

The first 250 participants to locate all 30 Ranger Geo-Challenge caches will be awarded with a trackable Ranger Geo-Challenge coin. The Park Ranger Geo-Challenge will work off of a passport system. To be eligible for the coin, geocachers must download a printable passport from the PGParks.com or Maryland Geocaching Society www.mdgps.org web site. You must locate all 30 "Ranger Challenge" geocaches and stamp your passport using the stamp found in the cache container on the corresponding square on your passport. To get credit for the find, participants must log the find and post a picture of them self with the cache container at each cache location on the individual Geocaching.com cache page. You may cache in groups, however, your log must include the picture of you and the cache box. Group pictures are acceptable.

Black Hill Regional Park
Montgomery County M-NCPPC
This Ranger cache will take you on a tour of the wonderful Black Hill Regional Park. Black Hill Regional Park is a 1,300-acre park located in the northern part of Montgomery County, north of Germantown and west of I-270. The dominant feature of the park is the 505-acre Little Seneca Lake. Other features include a visitor's center, horseback riding, hiker/biker trails, playgrounds, and picnic shelters. This park was acquired by M-NCPPC in 1965 -1994.

With more than 1,800 acres, Black Hill Regional Park offers such a wide variety of outdoor activities that it’s impossible to experience it all in a single visit. Families and groups make full use of covered picnic shelters near playgrounds, volleyball courts, a fitness course, paved and natural trails and spectacular views of Little Seneca Lake. The lake itself can be enjoyed from your private boat, our rental rowboats, canoes, or our pontoon boat, and our fishing pier. Black Hill Regional Park also hosts a variety of special events and programs. Twilight Concerts, Summer Stage, canoe and kayak classes and other special events are scheduled throughout the year. For those who love the solitude of the forest, miles of trails can be explored by foot, horseback or mountain bike.
