Geocache Description:

This EarthCache is located on a public access street about 500 feet from the shoreline of the Straits of Mackinac. This will be a fun EarthCache. It will help you get a 'feel' for the elevation differences of Lake Superior and the Mackinac Straits.

The Great Lakes are contained in the boundaries of Canada and the United States.

Lake Superior is the largest of the lakes in surface, depth, and volume of water.

Lake Superior overflows into the St. Mary's River and the Saulte St Marie locks. There is an elevation difference that we want to, see-n-feel, as the river flows down to the elevation of the Mackinac Straits/Lake Huron/Lake Michigan. Lake Huron and Lake Michigan are geologically and hydrologically the same although they are separated geographically by the Straits of Mackinac. They also lie at the same surface elevation which we will compare with Lake Superior.

This EarthCache: 'Show-n-Tell' is intended to give you the sight-n-feel of the elevation differences of Lake Superior and the Straits of Mackinac.

The location where you should be standing now,the listed coordinates,is at the approximate elevation of Lake Superior. Please note this elevation.

If you continue to drive or walk down this street about 500 feet, to the shoreline of the Straits of Mackinac, you will see-n-feel the difference in elevations. You will want to record the elevation at the shoreline, as this is often considered the official elevation.

PLEASE send your answers BEFORE U log as a 'find'--

TO LOG THIS CACHE:

2- List the approximate elevation at ground level at the beginning coords. This is the elevation of Lake Superior.

3- List your elevation at the shoreline pf the Mackinac Straits at ground level.

4- So what is the approx. difference between the elevations of Lake Superior and the shoreline where you now stand?
