This cache is the second hide of a 'Back in the Day" series. Last time we went back to the early 60"s and visited Arlan's Department Store. This time we are going back to the early 80's when this shopping center was developed. Originally on this site was a really nice farm pond. Sadly this pond was drained to make way for concrete progress. This horsehoe shaped strip mall was anchored by a prototype A&P Save A Center grocery store (the second in Raleigh) and a locally founded and owned Drug store. As you will see, the original grocery is long gone and has been replaced by a thriving market that is a sign of the times. This store has been in this location for over 10 years, so you might say that it has "saved a center". The front of the building was done in a space age blue and silver metal of the day. One of the interesting tidbits is the fact that the colors of the development was already approved by the local zoning authorities when a well known national chicken place whose corporate colors are red and white bought an out parcel. During the zoning approvals they learned that they had to follow the already approved colors of blue, silver and white. Make sure you take notice of the only blue and white chicken restaurant of this brand in existence. Me, being from Raleigh, I was perfectly ok with the red and white!
This is a micro cache so bring something to write with. It has also been camo'ed to blend in with it's surroundings. Please replace the container exactly as you found it so that others may enjoy the same thrill of the find as you did. Muggles can be many at times.
As always, enjoy the hunt!
