Green Gryke (Canterbury) Traditional Cache
Grandalf: Due to many DNFs, I'm disabling this cache - I should be able to get there in a week or so to renew it.
This spot has many visitors, cachers and muggles, and several times already the cache has been trashed by muggles.

Go hunting for a gryke - don’t worry, it won’t jump out to bite you!!
The grey limestone rocks of Castle Hill Basin, Kura Tawhiti, are the eroded and weathered remnants of a huge tilted slab of ancient stone. Natural erosion has weathered the higher parts into fantastic shapes, which are much loved by rock-climbers, and the whole area is a maze of towers, arches, holes and slabs that is a joy to explore. See also some points of interest on the nearby earthcache “Kura Tawhiti” GC1RBCV The weathering of the gently sloping limestone “pavement” leaves huge smoothed blocks called “clints”, separated by holes and channels called “grykes”. This cache is hidden in a gryke that you can step into, covered from view by a Hebe bush (look for the green). These Hebe are also in flower in January. Among this area of grykes and clints are some unique plants found nowhere else. The cache is very near to a conservation area fenced off with wire netting. Do not enter the conservation area – the cache is up on the “clint” above it.
