Geocache Description:

This cache is located in a very nice section of the Upper Paint Branch Stream Valley Park. This should be an easy walk, and one with historical significance. We recommend you walk in from Fairland Road, which will give you a good look at this cache’s namesake “Fawcett’s Mill Race.”

As you get closer to the cache you will notice a long, raised mound of earth with a gulley between it and the hillside. This is the old mill race for Fawcett’s Woolen Mill, which was just south of Fairland Road. In a couple places the trail actually takes you into the mill race. The mill race you see used to channel water from upstream to the mill for power to produce textiles. The mill operated in the 1800’s.

We recommend you park on the north shoulder of Fairland road just west of the Paint Branch bridge and just walk in from there. The walk is fairly flat until in proximity to GZ, and not too far from the entry point into the woods. While you’re there, be sure to visit the sister cache “Good Hope for Brown Trout” which is only about a 1/3 of a mile upstream. (If you stay on your side of Paint Branch and keep going upstream, you will only have to cross the small Good Hope stream to get there.)

Cache is a medium sized ammo box. For the “first-several-to-find” we placed a lot of cool things in the container, including nice mineral specimens, interesting stickers, various trinkets, and even a little “legal tender.”

Don't miss the very close by "High-Road, Low-Road" cache placed by tsnorth almost simultaneously by total chance!

Be sure to check out the sign installed in late 2014 that describes the history of Fawcett's Mill just south of Fairland Road!

We also hope you have fun searching for this one, as well as its "sister" caches Good Hope for Brown Trout and Troglobite's Delight!
