Geocache Description:

You are looking for a micro at the “end of the road.” They are easily accessed from crossroads and interchanges from US 61. Please do not attempt to access these caches from US 61, as stopping on the highway for other than emergency purposes is not only illegal, it can be downright dangerous. Bring your own writing implement and please replace the cache exactly as you found it, including replacing the pill pouch in the container precisely as you found it.

Recently while driving US 61 in the northeastern part of Missouri, I encountered several park and grab caches by 1 CW OP, that took me to pieces of the Old 61 when it was a blue road.

U.S. Route 61 is the official designation for a United States highway that runs 1,400 miles from New Orleans, Louisiana, to the city of Wyoming, Minnesota. The route was an important north-south connection in the days before the interstate highway system. Many southerners traveled north along Highway 61 to go to St. Louis, Missouri and St. Paul, Minnesota. The highway was also used in the title of Minnesota-native Bob Dylan's song (and album) "Highway 61 Revisited." (Source: Wikipedia)

Now, Old Highway 61 will never rival The Mother Road, US 66. It’s more The Maiden Aunt That Smells Funny Road, but it still had its day in the sun, and we need to remember these vital two-lane blue roads that connected our country before the advent of the Interstate System.

As I continued south towards home, I saw sections of the old highway closer to home that had similar cache possibilities. I contacted 1 CW OP in Quincy, IL and asked if it would be okay to continue this series of caches to the south and was told he would be delighted if I would as he had gotten the idea from several Old Hwy 63 caches placed by Twilight Rabbit in the Columbia, MO area. So, here are a few more stretches of the old highway. Enjoy!

Cache placed with the indifference of MODOT.
