The highest mountain in Daejeon
Secheon Park

Sikjangsan (Mt.)

As one of the Eight great sceneries in Daejeon, Mt. Sikjang is a beautiful ecological treasure house. Looking east from sikjang, one can see downtown Daejeon, Mt. Sikjang is 623.6 meters high and is located near Panam-dong in Dong-gu, Secheon-dong, and Sannae-dong. As the highest mountain in Daejeon, it has a graceful physical appearance, as well as eeotic. It is plants, and historic relics. It is iassociated with many legends.

According to one legend, Mt. Sikjang has good water that revives all those who drink it. The name of the mountain originated from its being used during the defence Baekje Dynasty from Silla by when the citadel was used as a storehouse for military food provisions. Also, it was called Sikgi mountain or Sikjang mountain signifying bowls of rice buried underneath.
To the northeast, near the mountain is Secheon Park, which is surrounded by thick forests. There are about 6,000 kinds of plants, which attests to the fact that this mountain is truly a treasure house of plants. The city designated the area as an environmental preservation forest on June 3, 1996.
At the foot of the mountain, there are the famous historic temples of Gosansa, Sikjangsa, and Gaesimsa. The valley around the Gosansa Temple attracts many people throughout the year. The scenery which the Sikjangsa Temple offers is also nice and the Gaesimsa Temple commands a view of the whole city of Daejeon.
