Girdle Traditional Cache

I park on George's Creek Road near the bridge. (Roughly, 39º 37 552; 76º 46 374).
It's a 2-mile stroll to the cache. This is a great time (April, 2016) to explore Professor Martin Larrabee's Blue Bottle Cap Trail. In the memory of the Johns Hopkins University's teacher (1910-2003), members of the Mountain Club have used a mighty chain saw to make the trail an easy walk.
To girdle a tree means to kill it by making an encircling cut through the bark into the nutrient-carrying layers below.
The cache is hidden past where the forest turns into grass mowed all the way to the water's edge. And yet it is still reservoir property.
If you look carefully at the base of living evergreen trees near the cache, you will see some that bear the scar of having been girdled. They were probably wrapped with wire when young. As they grew the wire would cut into them. The ones that died are gone, but on the survivors the wire must have broken.
