Geocache Description:

The Putnam County Cache Quest

The Cache

Route 2 is one of the main roads into the western half of Putnam county. Putnam has an interesting fact that one can not drive from west to east without leaving the county. There are no bridges across the Illinois river inside of Putnam County. Welcome from the West.

The Quest

The Putnam County Cache Quest is a chance for cachers to visit the smallest of all Illinois counties, Putnam. Enjoy touring the small towns and country side of this hidden county. With only two caches in the entire county, the county challenge can be very difficult. Why not bring out important points in a nice little area?

Putnam County is the smallest county of the U.S. state of Illinois. As of 2000, the population is 6,086. The county was formed in 1825 out of Fulton County. It is named after Israel Putnam, who was a general in the American Revolution. The county seat is Hennepin, Illinois.
