This cache is placed near the site of Gidlow Pit. Gidlow consisted
of 2 shafts sunk by Kirkless Hall Coal and Iron Company in the
1850's. The shafts were around 330yds and 400yds deep . A new
mineral railway was constucted to support the mine.
This is one of a series of caches placed in an area that in the
late 1800's was covered with mine workings, pit shafts and
railways.
Some of the paths follow the line of the railways serving the old
pits.
As you walk to the cache and around the series look out for the
many remnants of the mine workings.
Please take care around the old buildings and workings.
Please replace carefully as found.
