Geocache Description:

This Earthcache is located along State Route 9 on the way to Hurricane. When they made the road cut at this location, they exposed an excellent cross section example of 'Inverted Topography'. Please enter and exit the side of the road in a safe manner.

Approximately 350,000 years ago, a volcano in the Hurricane area erupted. Lava flowed down an ancient canyon made of sandstone, and shale. After many years of erosion, the hardened basalt flow is now the high butte you see before you. The once higher canyon walls, have mostly eroded away.

To log this cache, I must receive the answers to the following questions. Please begin your email with the name of the cache.

1) Estimate the height of the (visible) basalt flow at its deepest point (near the middle)?
2) Looking closely at the basalt flow around the edges, you can see some channel gravel and pieces of sandstone intermixed; How do you think this occured?
3) Bonus: Post a photo of your GPSr or one of your group with GPSr at the cache site.

Congratulations to Coach Steve on being the FTF! 02/24/09
