Lea Bridge Revisited Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Super_Nate: Hate to let an old cache go. When this cache was first published, the road ran right up next to the bridge, making for a P&G for those who didn’t want to walk the greenway. Now, a major facelift has occurred, and their is no longer a road here. I’ve decided to relocate the cache onto the bridge itself, and make it a brand new cache getting submitted today.
Thanks to the 311 people who visited this cache during its 15 year life.

Geocache Description:

Lea Bridge Revisited
Geocachers can now once again hunt for treasure on one of the most well-known landmarks along the Wolftever Creek Greenway in Collegedale.

In November 2004, a new geocache, called 'Lea Bridge,' (GCM0HN) was hidden very close to this location. The goal for the new cache was to educate visitors about the historical significance of this remarkable engineering feat. Over a period of four years, nearly 150 geocachers from all over the United States had the privilege to locate the exciting cache, some even striking out because of how well it blended in. Unfortunately in December 2008, the well camo’ed Altoids container came up missing, resulting in the cache becoming archived.

This cache was hidden shortly afterward to continue showcasing the bold structure, flawless design, and impeccable craftsmanship of Lea Bridge. Over the years, thousands of people have strolled across this bridge, and she continues to hold strong after all this time.

I consider Lea Bridge to be a gateway to the Collegedale Greenway. Once the bridge is crossed, the parking lot disappears from view and greenway visitors begin to experience the beauty of nature, wildlife, and the Wolftever Creek which runs alongside the greenway.

The previous cache page for Lea Bridge described some of the history behind this bridge, and I would like to share it on this page for you.

” Lea Bridge once crossed Candies Creek near Hopewell in Bradley County and was replaced by TDOT 12 or so years ago. The bridge construction is rather unique, placing it on the historic bridge list and thus saving it from destruction. After being replaced, it sat in a field in a small park in Cleveland for a use that never materialized. Recently, the city of Cleveland donated the bridge as a gift to the city of Collegedale”. You are seeking a regular sized container which contains a log, pen, and trading items. Please replace it right back where you find it. Watch out for muggles! Lea Bridge is very popular in the evenings and on weekends. Enjoy the hunt!
