FRIENDS BY ANYWORD ARE FRIENDS
Back in the early part of the 1900’s the Quakers in the Quilcene
area had their worship in their member’s homes. As the group grew a
real meeting place was needed and so they set about building their
church. Located at N 47 49-542 and W 122 52-540. The Quakers
completed this church in 1910 and it looks pretty much now as it
did then. Thanks to the present owners who has worked hard on
keeping it orginial and it has have been taking a long while.
The present owners hope to have a celebration next year, 2010 to
mark the building’s 100 birthday. Oh did I tell you that the group
of Friends did not have permission to build their church and almost
lost it thanks to their district office that was in Portland.
Next store is the old Quilcene theatre build about 1937 or so. It
was the big movie house in town. The theatre has a step down floor
to make viewing the movies easy. The theatre was constructed by the
CC Camp while they were in town, giving them something to do in
building it and keeping busy once it was running.
This is an easy cache, lots to do and see while in Quil, and other
caches to find. Please respect the property of the owners and keep
to the public walk ways, have a cup of coffee and chat with the
coffee lady who will full you in on more Quilcene information. Be
sure to place things back as found. Add a picture if you like to
the gallery like thoses, Thanks. By the way the lady who lives in
the nearby house gave up permission to place the cache here so
plese respect her property.
