DaxVolks: The floods came in May. We tried to check on our caches in June--and were denied entrance. We thought things were drying out, but were told damage to the park was significant; lots of roads/loops/rest rooms still closed. Then more floods came.
We had a very nice long, frank chat with management today and realized it might be as much as two years before some parts of CHSP are open to the public again. We checked on what we could today, salvaging three of twelve. It is with a heavy heart that we are archiving the others. It is also with a heavy heart that we drove around the sections of the park we could and witnessed so much still under water or damaged.
Our kudos to Beth Tragus and her staff for managing this unmanageable situation and doing their utmost to continue making geocachers, campers, hikers, and trail bikers feel welcome at CHSP. We wish them the very best in support from citizens and the legislature in restoring this beautiful state park.
