Geocache Description:

The cache is placed in a WMA adjacent to one of the Salt Valley Lakes. It's about.4 Mile from parking but you will probably walk a half mile getting to it if you follow the easiest route. It's level terrain with about .13 mile of bushwhacking as you approach the cache site. Although there's a natural barrier in the way Garmin maps will show a approach from the south off a dirt road.. I don't recommend this. Use the parking lot off Panama road.

You will not need a Nebraska Park Permit to use the area south of Panama Road. Be aware that this is a public hunting area and hunters may be present during hunting seasons. The area north of Panama Road next to the lake is a State Recreation Area and a Nebraska Park Permit is required.

The first cache in this area, Stagecoach South, in the four years of its life was the victim of two 100 year floods. It has been archived and this new cache placed in a nearby location which should be above the flood zone. This is a new listing and those who logged the original cache may also log this one.

The cache is a large ammo can containing the usual things, including an unactivated Nebraskache 2008 geocoin - the gold rim resident variety.

June 23, 2011. The Ammo can seems to have gone AWOL and it has been replaced with another which contains a new log and the usual assortment of stuff. See Logs for 6/23/11.

This is a very pretty area, especially in the spring and fall. It's a nice bird area. Baltimore Orioles, Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, Cardinals, Catbirds, Brown Thrashers and Wood Ducks are all nesting in the vicinity of the cache. There are deer tracks everywhere and there are two burrow entrances near the site, probably coyote or maybe badger, groundhog or fox. Nobody seemed to home the day I placed the cache.

Watch out for ticks in spring and early summer. I saw no sign of nettles and poison ivy in the cache vicinity in the spring but they may be around. Wear long pants. Vegetation will be very high in summer. Go around the edges of the open weedy field. THE AREA IS OFTEN HUNTED IN THE FALL. Be cautious during hunting seasons.
