Geocache Description:

Kirk Michael
This station opened in September 1879, with a substantial sandstone building to the east of the line. It also had a passing loop which was extended across the level crossing in 1883. There were no raised platforms but the track was ballasted up to rail level instead, as was common on the IOM.

A footpath connected the station to the pleasure park of Glen Wyllin. The IOM Railway purchased the Glen in 1935, building tennis courts, bowling greens, a boating lake and a dancing area.

Kirk Michael station closed along with the rest of the line in November 1965. Although it re-opened in 1967, this was only until 6th September 1968. The line was lifted in 1974 and the station building and goods shed became the Fire Station. At the site of the level crossing is a short section of track and one of the level crossing gates.
About the cache
The old station is at 54°17.100'N, 4°35.307'W, and if you arrive by car it's probably best to park here. A short walk leads to the cache area, where a few minutes searching should bring success.
