Geocache Description:

Spooky castle of Engsö

Lots of stories have been told about the haunting on castle of Engsö and there have also been a number of “paranormal” investigations. Among the unrest spirits you found a dwarf, Anders Luxemburg. He worked as a fool at the castle when Karl XII was the king of Sweden. Anders Luxemburg was highly appreciated by their songs and sayings. He was 47 years and had served its masters in about 30 years. In 1744 he was buried at Engsö.

There is a a true(?) story about a group of people that wanted to visit Engsö by night to see a real ghost. They did, but did not see anything special so they decided to drive their car home again. As they drove along the road with trees on each side they suddenly noticed “very short person” (dwarf ?) standing in the middle of the road watching them leave. They stopped the car and pulled in reverse drive to come closer. Then the dwarf suddenly started to run against the car! They panicked and quickly drove away as fast they could.

A friend of mine that lived in “Irsta” outside Västerås once told me about one of his classmates that had a summer job at the castle of Engsö. One evening when she had done the cleaning and was about to lock the café (yes, you may still have a nice cup of coffee at the castle, first floor) she heard steps on the 2nd or maybe 3rd floor. She was working alone at that time so she was very scared and fled from the castle. Someone else had to go back and lock that evening.

You may read more about the ghosts and sayings on Engsö here: (visit link)

Its hard to find a good place to park the car near the cache, however you can always park it by the cemetery, right side on the road, before you reach the zero on your GPS or maybe even pass the zero and park outside the castle.

And if you notice something paranormal, please tell us in the logbook and/or when you log it on geocaching dot com.

Enjoy!
