Geocache Description:

This is an offset cache. The listed coordinates will take you to where you can park which is next to a popular trail and is near an historical monument that memorializes the flat-bottomed boats that travelled up and down the Green River carrying passengers and goods to and from the Black and Duwamish Rivers during late 1800’s. The marker cites the name of the boats that ran the river as well and mentions the Nelsen Landing that was not far from the historical marker.

You will need to read the historical marker and so some simple math so that you can obtain the rest of the coordinates to where the cache is hidden. Answer the following questions:

The number that shows up twice in the year the monument was erected = ____ A

The number of boats shown on the monument = ____ B

The month the monument was erected (month number) = ____ C

The number of letters in the name of the boat with the fewest letters X 3 (not counting the word "the") = ____ D

The first digit of the year the monument was erected = ____ E

The number of letters in the last name of the boat that shares the name of a Western Washington town (less “the”) = ____ F

Finish the following coordinates:

N 47 27.ABC W 122 14.DEF

The cache itself not far from where the marker is located. You cannot reach the cache by vehicle. It can only be reached on foot or on a bike. The cache should be fairly easy to locate and is about a foot or two off the paved path. However, due to the popularity of this trail with the muggles, it will have to be a stealthy grab, sign and go (GS&G). No writing utensil, so BYOP.

Good luck!

5/18/09 - Original cache has been muggled! Replace today with a similar sized cache. Its located very near where the original was place. Had to move it slightly since the "cover" had died off. The cache is less than a foot from the original location.

UPDATE 11/5/09 - With the potential flooding of the Green River, part of the Green River trail at the site of the listed coordinates, a large black monolith of a sand bag wall has been erected. This is a 4ft high wall. The good news here is that you can still see the monument where you get your information to find the cache AND the cache itself is not affected by the sand bag wall. So, I will be keeping this cache active. The only impact is that you will have to look over the wall to view the monument vs. standing next to it. Good luck cachers!
