40 years old in 2002, you too can have a go at the Bamber Gascoigne – Jeremy Paxman show, albeit with a difference. For visitors to Oxford I suggest you park in one of the five park and ride car parks the surround the city, and take the bus in to the centre. From here you can start our little quiz. But be warned, the cache is a black 35mm film cassettes and due to the very urban nature of their locations, are much in the public spotlight. The trick is to winkle them out of their hidey holes without attracting attention.
This year University Challenge was won by Corpus Christi, where single handily team captain Gail Trimble, hailed by many as the strongest competitor in the history of the show for having scored some two-thirds of the team's total points, powered them past Manchester University.
So here we are in Merton Street, a very pleasant backwater so close to The High. Merton College to the south and University College to the west and in between, Corpus Christi, one of the smallest.
Or not as the case maybe. For fielding an ineligible student who left during the series, Corpus Christi have been stripped of their trophy. Now it appears that other contestants have not been eligible over the years...oh dear.
Your exercise for the week is to go from elation to disgrace in single letter increments.
