I had been introducing a new geocacher to the island many weeks ago and placed this cache enroute to the OWL WOODS with our dear KFN member, JJ. I was waiting for a KAG event to come along to entice some summer geocachers to get a jump on the season...or is that "SPRING"-into-geo-action with the longer days and milder conditions.
We had met many birders on our trip this day but most were looking for the BOREAL OWL and not too interested in the common Gallopova.
Thinking that kids would like a walk to a bird that they could spot and find and "touch" well... hence the hide named Meleagris gallopavo was 'hatched'.
While there is a laneway to the cache we would encourage people to park their cars along and off the roadside and WALK IN to the geocache. This is the most unobtrusive way and is much more respectful to the birding habitat and also birders who are hoping to get a "SHOT" at the owls ih this vicinity.
Please leave ROVER at home if you come for this geocache, especially in the spring when nesting and many ground birds are active.
The cache is NOT ON PRIVATE PROPERTY.
although the lane does continue to the entry to the PRIVATE members and their guests-ONLY OWL WOODS.
Please be gentle with Gallopova and rehide so the strigiformes do not devour him.
