The cache is located at a crossroads just outside of the pretty village of Lealholm in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It is possible to park at the roadside near to the cache site.
Many of the modern roads crossing the Moors do not follow the ancient routes. In times past the tracks had to follow the lie of the land and could not traverse ditches and channels, travelers had to stick to drier, often higher lines. These routes were indicated by waymarkers, many of which survive, though sadly their inscriptions are becoming ever more illegible. On 2nd October 1711, the Justice of the Peace at Northallerton ordered that guide posts be set up at all cross roads in the North Riding of Yorkshire, and some of these survive today. After living in the area for 15 years I have only just noticed the waymarker at these crossroads; as to its age, I am not sure. This piece of land does get very damp after rain and the cache can sometimes be swimming in water. If the log book is too wet to sign, just take a photo of yourself and your GPS next to the waymarker stone.
