South Ballina Beach Traditional Cache

Nestled behind sand dunes south of south ballina beach.
This cache is located behind the sand dunes approx 1km south of the vehicle access track at South Ballina beach.
You can either drive or walk. No permit is required to drive however you must read and abide by the rules posted at the access tracks.
South Ballina Beach vehicle access has recently been upgraded and now has ribbed track almost to the hard sand making it very easy to drive on and off the beach.
This beach is an important breeding ground for migratory birds that nest in the dune areas therefore you must stick to the sand below the high water mark, except for established tracks.
Check the tides if you plan on driving as high tide will make it very difficult in very soft sand, in places it may unpassable without driving along sand dunes, which you are not allowed to do. If you drive down, why not continue down the beach to "Coffee Rock" and grab that cache too ! (I havent done this but it is on the same beach)
At waypoint BT you will find a vehicle track leading up into the dunes. Also marked by a small metal post at the first dune. By staying to the track you wont interfere with any birds nests. Please dont just bash on through the bush and dunes. Im not sure where the track rejoins a main road, if it does at all, but it is quite steep and very soft sand so unless you are very confident
of your 4wd and its abilities, dont drive up. The cache is located just off the track behind the dunes. Once at the top of the dunes just follow the track north and the arrow on your GPS to find the cache.
Its a small (200ml) systeema container and contains a log book, pencil and a small swap item. Suitable for small swaps only.
