Stuart Town Cemetary is a not so well known place of interest in Alice Springs.
The original extent of the Stuart Town Cemetary was plotted on the town plan on 31 July 1890. The chosen location was influenced by the burial near the site of Frederick Spicer who died on 8 November 1889 as a result of a horse riding accident. Prior to this, in the absence of a cemetary, burials took place at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station or more often wherever a person died. The cemetary closed when burials commenced at the cemetary in Memorial Avenue in January 1933.
The town of Alice Springs was called Stuart Town until the name was officially changed in 1932 to avoid confusion with the nearby Alice Springs Telegraph Station.
