This is the site of the spring that supplyed water to near by Faris Station, which was raided by Chief Bob Benge and his Warriors on Aug. 26, 1791.
(visit link)
Bob Benge wanted nothing more than to exterminate the White man from present day Scott County Virginia. Bob was from a long line of Cherokee Principle Chiefs, and he became the War Chief of the Chickamauga, a band of Cherokee, Shawnee and others formed by Chief Dragging Canoe to extreminate the White settlers. He was also closely related to George Gist, better known as Sequoyah - the inventor of the Cherokee alphabet (Sequoyah is also said to be the last member of the Cherokee Scribe Clan and not the inventor of their alphabet, according to his relatives). He was raised into Cherokee culture by his mother's brothers, Old Tassel, Double Head a.k.a. Man Killer and Pumpkin Boy. He was ambushed by the Lee County Milita and killed by Vincent Hobbs in Hoot Owl Hollow near Big Stone Gap Virginia during his thirteenth known raid through Scott County on April 6, 1794.
