Geocache Description:

This is the first cache in the Pentland Ridge series placed by our family of geocachers - Liathach, apple crumble and tip top.
This is a classic walk for those of us lucky enough to live in Edinburgh. The Pentlands are a glorious set of hills - they start within 8 km of the city centre and continue for 10 km in a south westerly orientation, and there are 14 distinct hills between 406 and 579m high. This ridge walk takes in 6 tops (Turnhouse to West Kip) all over 500m involving a 16km round trip with 900m of ascent - about 3000ft!!
We have often done this walk, or parts of it, as a family and we thought it would be fun to have a series of caches on each top. There has been a cache on Scald Law for some time, and I placed a cache on Carnethy last year; we have now placed caches on the remaining 4 tops to give a fantastic walk, which, depending on your fitness, energy and whether you want to take a picnic, will take between 4 and 6 hours. We recommend doing to walk from north to south - you get all the climbing done first, enjoy the views along the ridge soutwards, and can get blown back along the glen.
We hope you enjoy the walk - and the caching.
As this cache is part of the Pentland Ridge Multi-cache, dont forget to look on the underside of the box for the numbers for part of the final co-ordinates for the final cache.
