4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

An easy multi, to pay tribute to the men and women volunteers of the CFS.

The approximate 15,000 volunteers in over 400 brigades, across the state, provide a range of fire and emergency services to the community, including bushfires, structure and motor vehicle fires, road crash rescues and hazardous material spills.
Interestingly, South Australia’s CFS is one of the only fire fighting organisations in the world to have white, not red, trucks which makes them more visible in smoke and flames.

The initial waypoint will place you in front of the Paracombe CFS station – just one of many stations scattered through the Adelaide hills. The current station was opened in 2002, but the old shed, which housed the truck before that, is nearby. (Training occurs every Tuesday evening so you might want to avoid that time.)  Here you will need to collect two numbers-

The year the brigade was established = ABCD
The phone number of the station = EFGH IJKL

The cache can be found at:    S 34 50.GKD
                                           E 138 47.J(A+C)I

There is plenty of parking off the road at the cache location – be careful not to miss the entry as turning around further down the road will be difficult.
Take a moment, as you sign the log book, to look across the hills and try and picture the scene as it was some 26 years ago on Ash Wednesday – blackened as far as the eye could see with the stench of smoke thick in the air and as darkness fell, the hills glowing red and orange as trees continued to smolder. It was the sort of scene that stays in your mind for a lifetime – if it wasn’t so tragic, it would have been beautiful.

Use your logs to pay tribute to the men and women of the CFS who are (as the sign at the station says)

‘Volunteers

Professionally protecting our community for life’
