Hurricane
Ike did a number on the area that our original Cache by the Crick
was hidden in. Being that the area has changed so much, we went
ahead and archived that cache and placed this new one a few hundred
feet away. The cache is hidden in a nice quite area of Village
Creek State Park, with the park's permission, and offers a fun, and
a little challenging, two plus mile roundtrip
hike.
Except for
the longer than usual hike involved, this one is pretty straight
forward and should be relatively easy to find,,, Well, at least
most of the time! The trails do have some low water crossings, some
slight elevation changes, and may even be impassable if the creek
floods. It might be wise to contact the park and check to make sure
the trail is open before making the trip over to try for the
cache.
As far as the cache
itself goes, you'll be looking for the typical ammocan filled with
a few goodies for trade. Wait, let me retract that,,,this can is
not typical and in fact, has some geocaching history to it,,, It's
the original ammocan that the Jeep Girls placed for their
Sherlock In Sandyland multicache back in 2003. That
cache was alot of fun but unfortunately, is now archived. A
controlled burn took the final toll and it's not in the best shape
now so we placed another container inside of it to keep the weather
out. Trade if ya like but the main thing is to sign the logbook
while there and of course later, log your find here at
www.geocaching.com.
Remember that
this is hidden in a state park and there is a small fee charged to
gain entrance into the park. The coordinates above do take you into
the woods where you may encounter an assortment of wildlife. These
may include not only cute fuzzy critters, but those more annoying
ones such as skeeters, spiders, and snakes. Comfortable shoes,
along with a hiking stick of some sort, might be wise to bring
along for this little adventure.
We hope you enjoy finding our
cache,,, Goodluck!
