Geocache Description:

Yes, it is a parking lot micro. I know, I know- almost shameful. But keep reading...

I know that parking lot micros are abbhorent to some, but before you ignore this listing, read on. Stealth is not as much of a problem with this one, due to its location in respect to some very large machinery. I also wanted to do this one because it happens to have a nice outcropping in the middle of the city. There really aren't many outcrops right here is Johnson City. So, grab the kiddies and teach them about the Devonian Shale!

This micro is hidden amongst some Devonian era shales in Johnson City, NY. The strata here indicates that there was flowing water that laid down silts and sands around 300 million years ago (or a long time ago if one does not subscribe to the non-biblical model). If you look closely, there are a few layers which contain small braciopods and crinoid stems. These fossils tell us that there was once a shallow sea here.

This cache is hidden in a waterproof matchbox container. It contains a log sheet and a small (very small) pen. The pen has a chain on it, so tip the container upside-down and pull the chain.
