Geocache Description:

Up Up and away .....................

The Potomac Airpark, a small, charming country airport located between Hancock, Maryland and Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.
Located adjacent to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Park and several state parks in both Maryland and West Virginia, the Potomac Airpark resides on property that boasts three miles of the beautiful and historic Potomac River shoreline and is bursting with American history: the property overlooks an historic Civil War battleground where Stonewall Jackson shelled the town of Hancock, which lies across the river.

Owned by River Bottom, LLC, this one-of-a-kind site encompasses approximately 250 acres located along the banks of the Potomac River. The property includes an uncontrolled air field, a 5,000 foot paved and illuminated runway, a privately owned fueling station for Avgas and Jet A fuels, a grassy aircraft tie down area, an asphalt paved area with more than 20,000 square feet of aircraft hangar space in six buildings, and an area for industrial service storage.

The property is near urban centers like Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland, and located seven miles south of the Potomac Airpark is the beautiful town of Berkeley Springs, a quaint rural town originally laid out by George Washington. Today, Berkeley Springs is known as the "country's first spa" and offers many George Washington sites as well as a castle and history museum.

Touted as one of the top ten places to retire, Berkeley Springs boasts an active retirement community and senior life services center. And, with a vibrant downtown area, a local artist community and reputable golf course at Cacapon State Park, there are plenty of activities to suit every age and interest.

This hidden away local airpark and cache sits quietly awaiting for new arrivals.

Locating this hidden away cache will give you a view of the western end of this airpark along the scenic Potomac River.

** NOTE ** There is an access Road that leads to this cache from the Bridge near the West Virginia side. There is no need to cross the RailRoad Tracks !!
