One of a series of cache n' dashes on the A9. Bring a pencil!
The A9 Trunk Road runs from Edinburgh to Thurso and is the main highway to the Highlands. This series of caches is located at various points along its length and parking for each will be very apparent. Please do not attempt to park anywhere else and under no circumstances should you stop on the carriageway. The general direction you need to be travelling in order to attempt a cache is mentioned in the cache title. If you need to turn around, please do so at one of the main junctions. The caches are not suitable for dogs and children should be kept under strict supervision.
If you were to get your hands on a time machine and travel back to about the early 80's from here, you'd rematerialise in the middle of solid rock, as all this area was blasted out of the hillside to form the current dual carriageway. The old A9 leaves the current one at the bottom of the hill at the Findo Gask junction and takes a more severe path up the Cairnie Braes, emerging on your left at the top of the hill at Upper Cairnie Farm. This old road had to be frequently closed in winter due to the snow (in the days when we had snow!) and there was a toll house located on it which is still there.
The large chicken wire arrangement was placed here in 2008 to prevent rocks from falling onto the carriageway.
